What to look for when shopping for CBD samples
There are a few key things to look for when shopping for a CBD product to ensure quality, safety, and that it’s right for you.
Know the terminology
There are a lot of terms involved in the CBD industry that you may be unfamiliar with. Most importantly, you need to understand the difference between broad spectrum, full spectrum and from isolate.
Broad-spectrum CBD oil is derived from the full plant and has had the THC removed to levels where it cannot be detected by scientific instruments. What this means is you can get the benefits of CBD, plus the other cannabinoids and terpenes in the hemp without any of the effects of THC. This is especially important if your workplace drug tests.
Full-spectrum CBD oil is derived from the full plant and has not had the THC removed, though due to US law, the amount of THC is very small. If you take proper dosage, most people won’t feel a high from full-spectrum CBD oil.
Isolate is only CBD. Often these bottles of CBD oil are created with an isolated powder that has been mixed into a carrier oil. Most CBD aficionados believe that it is important to get the other benefits of the whole plant, like the other cannabinoids and terpenes, to get what is called the “entourage effect.” This is all of these elements working together to create balance. Unfortunately, you don’t experience this from CBD isolate.
Look out for untrustworthy companies
The first one, and this is a big one, is that you want to avoid any company that makes specific health claims. CBD products have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration, so they can not claim that they are intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases.
While we’d love to talk about the wonderful results that people get from our products, we simply cannot do so until CBD has been evaluated by the FDA.
If a company makes specific health claims—that CBD can treat arthritis, CBD is a cure for pain, you can take CBD for anxiety—anything of the sort, we recommend staying away from them, as they are breaking the law.
Second, any CBD oil or hemp oil product should be third-party tested. This ensures you are receiving a product that contains the amount of CBD claimed on the bottle, the level of THC and other cannabinoids included in the oil, and that you won’t be exposed to any harmful chemicals, pesticides, harsh metals, or other dangerous aspects of irresponsible extraction processes.
Finally, while offers for a free CBD oil sample (or especially, free CBD samples with free shipping and handling) seem enticing, please proceed with caution. There have been scams using these seemingly good offers to steal credit card information. Before accepting free samples from any company, be sure to check that they are reputable and use sound internet safety practices.
